All of the coffins we sell are environmentally friendly, ranging from woven bamboo, banana or willow, through to cardboard coffins.

Oseberg Felt & wood Cradle

£ 1,500 

This is a coffin alternative, moving away from the convention of a box, offering a safe, strong cradle with a thick, multi-layered cocoon of pure English organic wool felt in cream or natural dark brown. This can be used for cremation or burial. Made from sustainable and local wood using traditional techniques that completely avoid glues and metal. The wool shroud has strong hemp carrying handles. The (optional) leaf shaped cover is threaded through the handles to secure. The cost is £1500 for a standard size. The leaf cover is £70 for plain or £95 for a simple leaf decoration.

Leafcocoon Felt-Shroud

The Leafcocoon is the most environmentally friendly option for a burial. The simplicity of being wrapped in a soft woolly cocoon brings us back to our connection with nature. It is made with sustainable natural materials, sourced as ethically and locally as possible. This beautiful soft cocoon is made on Dartmoor and comes in cream or natural brown felt. With handles and a built-in frame, it can be used in place of a coffin. There is also the option to add a leaf shaped cover, and an adapted board can be provided if needed for cremation, for an extra charge. The cocoon with handles and frame is £750 for a standard size. The additional cover is £75 if plain or £95 with simple leaves.

Simple Shroud

Easy to carry at arms length, with eight built in handles and board. Perfect for allowing the family to be safely involved in conveying their loved one Made from pure unbleached cotton material thick enough so they are not translucent. They are made with strong in built handles and ribbon ties, all 100% environmentally bio-degradable.

Loop Living Cocoon

£ 1,400 

Grown from local mushroom species and upcycled hemp fibres, this mushroom coffin is the world’s first living coffin. Grown in 7 days, it enriches nature by biodegrading in only 45 days, giving our nutrients back in the most natural way. The Cocoon is certified for traditional burials, natural burials and cremations. It comes with a soft bed of moss as standard and can be carried using the six integrated jute handles.

Eco Wooden Coffin

£ 700 

These coffins are made near Cardigan in West Wales. The sides and lid are made using recycled wood. The base is made using FSC certified plywood. They can be lined with either calico or hessian. The handles are made from strong manilla rope and are load bearing. A handmade wooden nameplate can be included for £25. There is an extra charge for larger coffins, which includes increased delivery costs, of £50.

Somerset Willow

The Somerset Willow Coffin is hand-worked by traditional basket weavers using age-old methods that have changed little over 2000 years. Willow is the ultimate in environmental recycling and is grown in rows of bushes on the Somerset Levels. Once harvested it can generate back to the same height within a year. These coffins are completely bio-degradable and natural. No glues, resins or metal are used in their manufacture. This coffin can be the made in the traditional style or rounded end and either buff willow, which is a dark orange to chestnut-brown, or gold, which is a lighter colour. If you wish naturally dyed bands of colour can be woven in. These are £900, or you can have a coloured coffin (or even a rainbow) for £1000. For coffins over 6’2” there will be an extra charge of £40.

Bamboo Coffin

These bamboo coffins are skillfully handcrafted by interlacing strands of dried bamboo, creating an intricately plaited mat which is woven around a strong rattan frame. These coffins are available in two differing shapes, curved end and traditional shape. Both styles come with natural rope handles. They are fully fitted with natural linings, pillows and covers. Part of the grass family Poaceae, this evergreen perennial is abundant throughout Asia. The stems of bamboo have been recorded to grow up to one meter per day, making bamboo among some of the fastest-growing plants on Earth.

Banana Leaf Coffin

£ 700 

Yarns of golden leaves from the banana plant are twisted and woven to form this coffin. They are available in two shapes, curved end and traditional. Both come with natural rope handles. They are fully fitted with natural linings, pillows and covers. Banana leaves come from the Musa genus of flowering Banana Plants. These plants grow as tall as trees and produces lush green leaves, which over time form its trunk. As newer leaves develop, the older leaves die back. During the monsoon season, the banana plant leaves rapidly multiply, leaving an abundance of older leaves for harvesting. The leaves would otherwise be discarded or composted. Instead, here, they are recycled, dried, tied together and spun into long yarns ready for weaving. Please note that the coffin may vary in colour from the photos.

Wicker Coffin

Bands of natural rattan are woven together to create this beautiful coffin. The chestnut appearance comes from the rattan’s outer bark, and colours can vary. The coffins are available in two shapes, curved end and traditional. Both styles have natural rope handles and are fully fitted with natural linings, pillows and covers. Rattan is a climbing vine that can grow up to six meters a year, making it a rapidly renewable material. It grows throughout the forests of South East Asia. Because the vine clings to existing rainforest trees as it grows, it encourages the natural preservation of the forest and local fauna. Plantation owners actively manage large forest areas to keep renewed growth cycles intact.

Cardboard Coffins

The cardboard coffin is simple and understated but smart, and is an environmentally friendly alternative to the heavy wooden coffin. It has weight bearing rope handles. It can come in brown (£350) or lily white (£370), which is good if you wish to decorate it yourself, or alternately it can be printed with either a stock design (£450) or a design of your own (price dependent on design). For coffins over 6’2” there will be an extra charge of £40. There is no nameplate charge.

Loop Biotech Earthrise Urn

The Loop EarthRise™ is an urn grown from mushrooms, that enables you to become a source for new life. Use as a unique ornament at home, or bury the urn in the garden or graveyard, to become a source for new life to thrive. The experience of using the Loop EarthRise™ for funeral remains similar to that of conventional urns. It can be stored indefinitely when it is placed in a dry and ventilated space. To close the EarthRise firmly push the lid on the base. The friction of the mycelium creates a tight closure. In the ground, the Loop EarthRise™ biodegrades in just 45 days, and gives our nutrients back in the most natural way. The urn is grown in just 7 days in a growing facility in Delft, The Netherlands, from local mushroom species and upcycled hemp fibers. This makes it 100% natural.

Acorn Urn

£ 70 

Acorn Urns are made from moulded recycled kraft and paper, with the stalk of the lid made from a twist of tissue paper. They are available in Dutch Gold Leaf, Moss Green, Dark Green, Stone, Russet, Purple, Yellow and Turquoise. - Fully biodegradable. Individually boxed but cotton drawstring ashes bags are available, at an extra cost of £5. These urns are made in the UK. - Urns cost £70 for the coloured and £95 for the gold.

Himalayan Rock Salt Urn

£ 180 

This beautiful, handcrafted, natural, biodegradable urn is designed for water ceremonies, as it's weight means it will sink and dissolve gently, releasing the ashes into the water. Each one is unique, as it is made from mineral deposits formed millions of years ago. This is the standard size urn, which includes a biodegradable ashes bag, glue, and instructions. Please note that it is heavy.

Journey Water Urn

£ 70 

This biodegradable water urn is handmade using a centuries old paper making technique. It uses mulberry tree bark, that is harvested, leaving the tree alive and intact. This is soaked, creating a pulp which is then laid out to dry on a bamboo screen. The resulting paper is made into a beautiful textured pillow that is designed to float for a short while, and then gracefully sink. The urns break down naturally over a few hours. They come in the following colours - Aqua, Moss Green, Aqua Embossed, Embossed Fern, Purple, Navy, Natural, Embossed Pearl. There is also a Scottish Thistle pattern (royal blue) and Lily pattern (white) They come with a biodegradable bag for the ashes.

Living Memorial Soil

£ 80 

This living memorial soil can be used to help reduce the environmental harm that can be caused by cremation ashes. Ashes have a high pH and sodium content, which means they can prevent plants from flourishing when in contact with them. This soil enhancer contains a carefully formulated, 100% organic material that, when mixed with ashes, creates a nutrient-rich, perfect environment for trees, plants and shrubs. As the cremated remains are broken down more of the beneficial nutrients locked inside are released allowing the growing plant to flourish. Using it is as simple as mixing the ashes with the product and then planting out as normal. It comes with a simple set of instructions for how to use the kit depending on whether you are planting in the ground or in a pot.
