Cremations

Cremation is still the preferred option for many people.

Whilst we understand that crematoriums can sometimes feel impersonal and intimidating and have a "conveyor belt" reputation, this does not need to be the case. We have experience with all the crematoriums in the West Country and can help you to reclaim this space and create a meaningful and individual ceremony.

Please note there is also a Doctors fee. At the moment, that is £124.00

Somerset
Taunton Deane Crematorium.
Run by the County Council. Charges: £459.00 Time allowed Half an hour.(In practice Twenty minutes for service.) Charge for double slot, extra £114.00 This is a light and airy crematorium, well designed, but with the pressure of a busy urban crematorium. The half price charge for a double slot is better than some, but not as good as others.

Devon
Exeter and Devon Crematorium
Owned and run by Dignity, British breakaway company from American owned S.C.I. Charges: £418.00. Time allowed: 45 minutes. For a double slot £183.00 extra A very pleasant crematorium with two chapels and extensive mature gardens. Nice staff, helpful. Price and time good value.

Efford crematorium, Plymouth
Weston Mill Crematorium, Plymouth.
Owned and run by Plymouth city council. Charges (Efford) £352.00 (Weston Mill) £394.00. Time allowed: Half an hour.  For double slot  £352.00 and £394.00 respectively. Both crematoriums have a strong Naval tradition and history. Architecture Victorian gothic, perhaps in need of refurbishment. In terms of price and time allowed, not the best value. Recommended for those with family attachments to Plymouth.

Torquay, Devon Crematorium
Run by Torquay council. Charges: £405.00 Charge for double slot: none Time allowed Half an hour. Comments: At the time of writing, Torquay is being taken over, but by who remains unknown. Whoever it is will inherit an ongoing row regarding the cross in the chapel, which has resulted in outraged headlines in the Daily mail and death threats for the staff. The building is in need of refurbishment, but on the other hand their policy of offering a double slot for everyone under 40 with no extra charge is admirable. Lets hope under the new management this continues.

Cornwall
Glynn Valley Crematorium, Bodmin.
Owned and run by Dignity. Charges:£365.00. Time allowed Half an hour.(But total slot is one hour, providing this is not abused Service can go on slightly longer.) Charge for double slot: £183.00 extra. This is possibly the nicest crematorium we use. Beautiful floor to ceiling window looking out down a valley on Bodmin Moor. Staff helpful and accommodating. Wonderful Chapel attendant in the form of Colin. (Believe us, this can make all the difference.)

Penmount Crematorium, Truro
Owned and run by Local authority. Charges £290.00. Time allowed 45 minutes. Charge for double slot: Mon to Fri No charge(!) Fri £290.00 extra. Cheapest by long way. Beautiful extensive gardens. Extremely good new soundsystem for which there is a £5.00 charge. The smaller of the two chapels is the nicest, with high windows, and a real Cornish Wesleyen feel.

Please note, attitudes to service time, special requests, animals being present etc vary from place to place. We have experience of them all.
